Longtime Amazon board member Thomas Ryder is stepping down effective Dec. 31, the company announced this week.

Ryder joined the board in 2002. He was the former chair and CEO of Reader’s Digest Association and held various roles at American Express. He was also a director at ILG, RPX Corporation, Quad/Graphics, Inc., Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide; and Virgin Mobile.

Following Ryder’s departure, Amazon will have six men and five women on its 11-member board.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy joined the board earlier this year after taking the CEO reins from founder Jeff Bezos, who remains executive chairman.

Amazon’s other board directors are Bezos; Keith Alexander; Edith Cooper; Jamie Gorelick; Daniel Huttenlocher; Judith McGrath; Indra Nooyi; Jonathan Rubinstein; Patricia Stonesifer; and Wendell Weeks.
