UiPath, a publicly traded “robotic automation process” company, announced that Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2) CEO Oren Etzioni will chair its new artificial intelligence advisory board.

The newly established board will include academics, technology and ethics experts and support UiPath’s research and incubation efforts in AI, automation and machine learning. It’s charged with helping UiPath develop practical guidance for ethical questions facing the industry.

“AI is poised to play an increasingly large role in societies across the world. Accordingly, there is a growing interest in ensuring that it is used in a responsible and beneficial manner,” said Etzioni.

Etzioni has led AI2 since its founding in 2014. He is a venture partner at Madrona Venture Group, which invested in UiPath’s Series C round, and founded multiple companies including Farecast. A long time professor at the University of Washington, Etzioni has been a professor emeritus since October 2020.

Based in New York, UiPath went public in April and employs more than 100 people at its Bellevue, Wash. R&D hub. Its technology uses AI to learn and then take over routine and mundane software processes and business workflows from human workers.
