Shelter-in-place mandates have forced broadcast production companies to go remote, and Seattle-area startup Tagboard is helping with the transition.

The company just released a new cloud-based graphics engine that helps broadcasters create programming graphics remotely. Customers including NFL Media and CNN have already used the product over the past few months to beef up their live shows with social media content.

“With budgets under increasing pressure, our partners needed a way to reduce costs, shorten production cycles, while creating great broadcast-quality stories — including the ability to build graphics or make changes on the fly as they added livestream guests,” said Nathan Petersen, chief revenue officer at Tagboard. “In many ways, we’re seeing forced innovation for broadcast networks, as they move from standard production processes to the cloud.”

Tagboard has seen a 48% increase in usage of its platform, and unlike many tech startups has avoided laying off employees amid the COVID-19 crisis. Founded in 2011, the 27-person company is ranked No. 154 on the GeekWire 200 list of top Pacific Northwest startups and was a GeekWire Awards finalist for UX Design of the Year.
