Production of Nintendo Switch consoles and several accessories has been delayed due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, the company said Thursday.

  • Nintendo Switch shipments to Japan and China as well as production of Joy-Con controllers and a game called Ring Fit Adventure are among the products delayed.
  • The coronavirus originated in China, and it has killed more than 500 people in a matter of weeks. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation earlier this week pledged to spend up to $100 million to halt the spread of the virus, which has been reported in close to 30 countries.
  • Big tech companies that do business in China have taken precautions to prevent the disease from spreading. Amazon and Microsoft are among a group of major companies restricting travel to China. Randy Tinseth, vice president of marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, recently predicted the virus will have an impact on the aviation industry and the global economy as a whole.
