Mark Suzman, the new CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and a key figure in the fight against COVID-19, will join GeekWire for a conversation about global health, science and the future of the world’s largest philanthropic foundation on Thursday, May 7, in a live virtual event exclusive to GeekWire members.

Suzman, a 12-year veteran of the Gates Foundation, took the helm of the $47 billion philanthropy in February, succeeding former Gates Foundation CEO Sue Desmond-Hellmann, just after the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic.

The Seattle-based foundation, and its co-chair Bill Gates, have put more than $300 million into programs to combat the spread of the disease, including an additional $50 million announced Monday morning. It is funding and leading initiatives including the development of therapeutics, vaccines and testing programs, with a particular focus on the Seattle region and unmet needs in developing countries around the world.

This live virtual event will take place at 1 p.m. Pacific time Thursday, May 7, with audience questions to follow Suzman’s conversation with GeekWire editor Todd Bishop.

This is part of a larger series of virtual events from GeekWire. We’ll have coverage and highlights on GeekWire afterward, but the opportunity to join the audience for this virtual event is exclusive to GeekWire members.
