Six years after the launch of the original Ring video doorbell, the Amazon-owned company announced the next generation of its signature product on Wednesday.

The updated version of the home-security technology comes with 1080p HD video, improved night vision and updated motion zones. It’s available for pre-order and still priced at $99.99.

Ring also revealed a new solar charger for the updated doorbell, which includes a mounting bracket and built-in solar panels that can keep the doorbell charged around the clock. That item will be available in July and sell for $49.

In a company blog post, Ring ticked off some of the security features of its “reimagined” video doorbell, including snapshot capture, which captures still images throughout the day in between recorded events and live view. Adjustable motion zones now come with “near zone” so that users only receive alerts that are considered most important.

Privacy upgrades include privacy zones that allow users to control what is viewed by the doorbell. Areas in the camera’s field of vision can be marked as “off-limits” so that the Ring app won’t record anything in that area or display it in the live view. Modes lets users choose with a tap how the doorbell operates using three different modes: home, away, disarmed.

“Ring video doorbell is one of our most popular products, and neighbors love the outsized value it provides,” founder Jamie Siminoff said in the blog post. “Today, we take it to the next level.”

Siminoff launched Ring’s original video doorbell in 2014, and the company was acquired by Amazon for more than $1 billion in 2018.
