Amazon released a new cloud service called AppFlow that promises to easily connect cloud-based apps to AWS services, automating the flow of data between them without requiring companies to write custom code.
AppFlow, announced Wednesday afternoon, is similar in some respects to existing services like IFTTT and Zapier, but supports a broader range of data transfer scenarios beyond workflow automation.
Amazon’s crosstown cloud rival, Microsoft, offers its own service called Azure Logic Apps that offers similar capabilities. Amazon also offers an existing data integration service called EventBridge, geared toward developers. AppFlow, in contrast, offers a point-and-click interface that can be used by people such as business intelligence analysts or Salesforce administrators, without the need to create custom code.
Data retrieval and transfer in AppFlow can be triggered by specific events, on demand or on a set schedule. Amazon cited popular apps such as Salesforce, Zendesk, ServiceNow and Slack as examples of apps that can be integrated with AWS using AppFlow. Early partners and business customers cited by the company include Salesforce, Trend Micro, Unum Group, Experian, and Slack.
Pricing is based on the amount of usage. The company says AppFlow users have the option to transfer data over AWS PrivateLink, using Amazon’s network rather than the public internet, for additional security and privacy.
