If you want your home office to look a little more like Amazon’s tropical office setting, here’s a chance to grab some unique plants like those in the tech giant’s Spheres in Seattle.
Amazon is donating more than 2,000 plants from its collection of 3,000 species from around the world as part of a Periodic: A Pop-Up Shop fundraiser for Woodland Park Zoo. It’s the first time the plants are being made available to the public for purchase.
The proceeds will benefit the zoo’s Living Northwest Conservation Program which helps in efforts to save regional amphibians, bats and raptors, western pond turtles, Northwest carnivores, and Oregon silverspot butterflies.
Amazon raises its plants in a 40,000-square-foot greenhouse facility in Redmond, Wash., before they find a home in the Spheres, the glass domes at the company’s headquarters campus where employees can work in an urban oasis of sorts. The Spheres opened two years ago and are normally open to the public on a limited basis, but are closed now due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Amazon’s horticulture staff are providing detailed care sheets for the sale plants and will be on site to answer questions. More than 75 different species of plants will be available.
The event will take place Jan. 9-22 at 2252 7th Ave. in Seattle. Interested shoppers need to make a reservation.
