Perhaps it was only a matter of time until the president tweeted about Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ divorce from MacKenzie Bezos, his wife of 25 years.

Donald Trump is a vocal critic of Bezos, who once started a viral sensation by suggesting sending the president to space on one of his rockets. Trump showed that Bezos’ dissolving marriage is not off-limits in their online feud by tweeting about the news late Sunday night.

As far as burns go, the tweet covers a lot of ground. Trump invented a new nickname for the Amazon billionaire, “Jeff Bozo.” He once again accused The Washington Post, which Bezos owns independently from Amazon, of peddling propaganda for the company. Finally, Trump made vague reference to a National Enquirer report on an alleged affair between Bezos and former news anchor Lauren Sanchez. He sealed the deal by suggesting the notoriously sensational tabloid “is far more accurate” than The Post.

Trump’s tweet may be an economical package of aspersions but it’s also a study in ironies. The president is no stranger to divorce himself, having been married three times, nor is he innocent of using ties to media for personal gain. The National Enquirer admitted paying hush money to bury a Playboy model’s claims that she had an affair with Trump.

Bezos announced the divorce on Twitter last week in a post co-signed with his wife. The tone was amicable.

“We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other,” the announcement says. “If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.”
