Microsoft’s foray into headphones may not be a one-off, according to a new report.

Citing multiple sources, journalist Brad Sams reports on Thurrott.com that the tech giant is working on wireless earbuds to rival Apple’s AirPods. This is a continuation of a surprising new hardware area for Microsoft, following the release last year of the $350 Surface Headphones.

Wireless earbuds are becoming a major trend in the hardware world. Apple’s AirPods have led the way, followed by Samsung, and Amazon is also reportedly joining the fray.

The headphones, under the reported codename Morrison — a likely reference to The Doors frontman Jim Morrison — could be called Surface Buds, though that could change, Thurrott reports. It is unclear what kind of features the headphones will include, but Cortana integration, noise cancellation and superior integration with phones are all possibilities, per Thurrott.

Microsoft declined to comment.
