Fierce competition at the 2018 GeekWire Bash dodgeball tourney

Assemble your team! Stretch those throwing arms! And get ready for some epic dodgeball action!

The GeekWire Bash returns to the CenturyLink Field Event Center on March 7th, and with it comes one of the most exciting and talked-about sporting events on the geek calendar: The annual dodgeball tournament, presented by T-Mobile.

Registration is open for newcomers and veteran teams for this fast-paced tournament, one of the many fun components of the 2,000-person GeekWire Bash. Go here to purchase your 8-person team’s entry, and don’t wait around as this tournament sells out every year.

Thirty-two high-powered teams — from small startups to mega corporations — compete for pride, bragging rights, and the ultimate office prize: the coveted Golden Dodgeball.

Last year’s dodgeball tournament proved to be the most thrilling yet, featuring overtime finishes, come-from-behind victories and tense rivalries (Zillow vs. Redfin, anyone?). The championship showdown between food processing manufacturer Marel and real estate powerhouse Zillow Group drew a raucous crowd of Bash attendees and was eventually decided in the final game by a margin of just 2 eliminations.

“It’s just dodgeball, but it feels so good,” said Chester Millisock, a member of Zillow’s 2018 championship-winning squad. Millisock said the Zillow team “ironed out the kinks” to claim the Golden Dodgeball after being eliminated in the 2017 quarterfinals.

Yes, these folks take their dodgeball seriously!

The 2019 GeekWire Bash Dodgeball tournament will again feature a Second-Chance Bracket, ensuring all teams will play at least two matches.

Squads must be comprised of 8 players with at least 4 female players (no substitutes) and tickets must be purchased as a team, so choose a captain and sign up today. Players must be 18 years of age and arrive for tournament check-in by 3:30pm. Registration for the official tournaments closes Friday, February 22.

Due to tournament logistics, players may only participate in one sport/tournament at the Bash. (Additional tournaments include ping pong, foosball and Catan)

The dodgeball rules can be found here and tournament participants will receive further information closer to the event date. Full tournament brackets will be announced ahead of the Bash — stay tuned!

There’s plenty to see and do at the Bash when you’re not on the dodgeball court: Virtual Reality, classic arcade games, the GeekWire Robotics Cup, Sumo wrestling, a massive zipline, and much more! This year we’re welcoming geeks of all ages, so be sure to grab tickets below for your family — or a co-worker who still acts like a kid. Either way, you’ll have a blast!
