News Brief: Washington Gov. Jay Inslee says the coming age of wider automation and smarter artificial intelligence will require upgrades in educational and training systems — as well as improvements in the social safety net for those who would otherwise be left behind. “Future-proofing our workforce goes beyond education and job training,” Inslee said last weekend during a panel discussion at the National Governors Association’s summer meeting in New Mexico. “It also includes workplace benefits and standards to ensure equity for all Americans, and to protect those who are displaced due to automation and AI.” Inslee is the co-chair of the NGA’s Education and Workforce Committee. For more, check out this Medium posting by Inslee’s office, plus our special series on the impact of automation and AI.
