No doubt the cosplayers get thirsty in whatever get-up they’ve worked themselves into during Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle. Luckily, Fremont Brewing will again be acting as a superhero of sorts at the annual event
The Seattle-based craft brewer is teaming with ReedPOP, the pop culture event producer, to bring back Dark Heron, a brew created specifically as the official beer of ECCC, which takes place March 1-4 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.
“This year’s Dark Heron is a loud, expressive IPA brewed with Strata, El Dorado, Comet, Citra, and Centennial hops,” said Matt Lincecum, founder and owner of Fremont Brewing, in a news release. “Golden-amber in color, Dark Heron IPA is bursting with citrus, tropical, floral, and stone fruit notes.”
The cold beer also gets a cool label, with artwork created by Seattle artist Jeffrey Veregge, who drew inspiration from his Native American roots and his training in the art of Salish formline design, according to the release.
ECCC and Fremont will launch the beer at the brewery’s Urban Beer Garden in Fremont on Feb. 1. A “Brews & Board Games” event at Mox Boarding House in Ballard will follow on Feb. 8.
Several west coast breweries and cideries are also coming together to create the League of Libations Presented by Fremont Brewing, which will be located in the Beer Garden on Level 1 of the Convention Center. The aim is to bring some of the best West Coast independent craft beers and ciders to Comic Con, and they include: Firestone Walker Brewing Co. from California; Crux Fermentation Project from Oregon; and Seattle Cider Company, which will all be on tap in the Beer Garden during all four days of the show.
Outside of Comic Con, Dark Heron will be available on draft at bars and restaurants in the Seattle area and in 22-ounce bottles at most major stores.
