The complicated dynamics of social media friendships has a welcome new wrinkle over on Instagram if you’re one of those folks who worries about hurt feelings that can come from unfollowing.
The photo- and video-sharing platform announced Tuesday that it is adding the ability to mute accounts that you follow without actually unfollowing them. The change will rid your feed of stuff you don;’t want to see anymore without notifying the person that you muted them.
You’ll still be able to view the muted person’s profile page and and get notified about comments or posts you’re tagged in, Instagram says.
And when you have a change of heart, you can always unmute. Use the three dots next to an account handle to access the function, which will roll out in the coming weeks.
Yay, friends!
