Elon Musk, "bankwupt."
Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted out a picture of himself seemingly “passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by ‘Teslaquilla’ bottles, the tracks of dried tears still visible on his cheeks.” (Elon Musk via Twitter)

Between Model S recalls and Model 3 production snags, Tesla has been having a hard time lately — but not as hard as CEO Elon Musk made them out to be today in a hilarious series of April Fools’ tweets:

As you can imagine, many of Musk’s 20.8 million Twitter followers were delighted by his self-deprecating gibes, and Teslaquilla may well turn into a real product.

It’s not clear what effect Musk’s lightheartedness will have on Tesla’s troubles, but Musk’s tweetstream seems to resolve a different question.

Today provided the perfect opportunity to confess that his campaigns to sell Lego-like bricks and flamethrowers through the Boring Company were merely extended April Fool’s pranks. The lack of such a confession suggests that the 20,000 purchasers of the item now rebranded as “not a flamethrower” can look forward to deliveries in the weeks ahead.
