Data scientists — or people who hope to become one — are collecting a lot of data about how great it is to be a data scientist, thanks to another list of the Best Jobs in America from Glassdoor.

The jobs site featuring reviews and insights about all sorts of jobs released its list of the 50 best on Tuesday. The report is based on each job’s overall Glassdoor Job Score, which is determined by weighing three factors equally: earning potential based on median annual base salary; job satisfaction rating; and number of job openings.

For the third straight year, data scientist was at the top of the list. And tech jobs accounted for 20 of the 50 — up from 14 in 2017. Here are the top five:

1. Data Scientist

Maybe the occupational therapist and the HR manager jobs are in there because those folks are needed to deal with anyone who is not already a data scientist?

“Data scientist has ruled as one of the hottest jobs for years,” said Glassdoor chief economist Dr. Andrew Chamberlain. “This is due to the high demand (4,524 open jobs), the high salary ($110,000 median base salary) and high job satisfaction (4.2). Not only are tech companies scrambling to hire data scientists, but industries across the board, from health care to nonprofits to retail, are also searching for this talent.”

Indeed, a quick search of “data scientist” jobs in Seattle on Glassdoor returned 1,113 results. Amazon, Zillow, Microsoft, Lyft and many more companies are looking to fill positions.

The Amazon job in particular was in search of someone on the Alexa team. The Glassdoor estimate for salary is $128,000 to $180,000.

“Workers with certain technical and soft skills, such as creativity, flexibility and good judgement, are at an advantage across industries, from health care to finance to HR, to leverage advances in artificial intelligence and automation,” Chamberlain added. “That’s because AI is increasingly complementing these jobs, while not replacing the people needed to do them.”
