This is a pivotal time for artificial intelligence technology. More and more cloud services will make use of AI and machine learning tech over the next several years, yet the general public is starting to think a little harder about how and where this powerful technology can and should be used.

In that spirit, we’re thrilled to have some of the best thinkers and operators in artificial intelligence coming to Bellevue, Wash., next week for the GeekWire Cloud Tech Summit, back for the second year at the Meydenbauer Center on June 27. Big tech companies have been plowing money into both AI research and AI-powered cloud services as they race for an edge in what many believe is the next big competitive factor in cloud computing.

Carlos Guestrin, senior director of AI and machine learning at Apple, will kick off our AI discussion on Wednesday morning with a power talk on how these emerging technologies are shaping the future of the tech industry. It’s pretty rare to have the opportunity to hear from an Apple executive at a tech event, and we’re thrilled that Carlos is able to share his expertise with our audience.

We’re also showcasing AI experts during our expanded tech track focused on the technology. You’ll hear from:

  • David Tennenhouse, chief research officer at VMware, who will acknowledge the concerns about AI while making the case that, on balance, it will be a positive force for the world.
  • Sophie LeBrecht, director of operations at xnor.ai, who will explain how deep learning techniques can be used in internet-of-things devices at the edge.
  • Jay Bartot, CTO at Madrona Venture Labs, who will discuss how pre-trained AI models can let developers get up and running much faster with cloud applications.
  • Paige Bailey, senior cloud developer advocate at Microsoft, who will talk about how to use machine learning to automate your software development pipeline.
  • Emily Fox, Amazon professor of machine learning at the University of Washington, who will teach attendees how to make the most of deep learning in real-world situations with imperfect data sets.

We’ll also feature talks during the day from experts in serverless computing, DevOps/containers, software-as-a-service, and hybrid cloud. It’s a chance to hear directly from the engineers and product leaders who are defining the modern era of cloud computing and learn how their insights can be put to use inside your own companies.

Our goal with the Cloud Tech Summit is to host a platform-agnostic conference, where top technology minds can exchange information, lessons and insights about the future of computing. We think the Seattle area is the best place in the world for this type of conference given the heavy concentration of developers, engineers and technical leaders who are pushing the envelope in these fields. And with this year’s lineup, we think we’ve assembled the very best non-vendor aligned cloud computing conference in the industry.

More than 600 people attended the inaugural Cloud Tech Summit last year, which you can read about here. A third of attendees are engineers, developers, designers or technical leaders. This year, we’re expecting a bigger turnout, and we are also excited to showcase a business track that will dive into the economics, sales and marketing of cloud computing services, featuring leading venture capitalists, CIOs and analysts.
