WTF is wrong with Bill Gates? That was the question, literally, from “The Daily Show” and correspondent Ronny Chieng as the comedy news program ventured out to Seattle to find out why the Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist is carrying around a jar of poop.

Chieng’s visit came on the heels of Gates’s recent appearance at the Reinvented Toilet Expo in Beijing, where, yes, he did use poo as a prop in discussing the importance of revolutionizing toilet technology in the developing world.

“You don’t need to reinvent the toilet,” Chieng said. “You s*it in it. Then we push a button. Then the s*it disappears. It’s perfect.”

Gates explained, amid all the potty talk, that toilets are something that we take for granted, but millions of people don’t have them. He said the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has given $700 million to the effort to improve sanitation globally.

Gates was a great sport throughout the segment and has probably seen everything when it comes to inventions aimed at reinventing the toilet. He was especially amused when Chieng busted out an iPad to show his own ideas for converting human waste into energy.

Gates also posted an image on Instagram saying he’s a longtime fan of “The Daily Show.”
