A year after taking home three Academy Awards in a first for any streaming service, Amazon Studios will return to the big event thanks to a nomination this year for Best Original Screenplay for the film “The Big Sick.”

The nominations for the 90th Oscars ceremony were announced Tuesday morning.

“The Big Sick” is a comedy about a Pakistan-born comedian who falls for a grad student. Kumail Najiani stars alongside Zoe Kazan, and Najiani and Emily Gordon received the nomination for their writing work.

“The Big Sick” will compete against original screenplays for “Lady Bird,” “Get Out,” “The Shape of Water” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

Elsewhere in the streaming services race — which always takes on extra attention around awards season — Netflix made its own history. Its film “Mudbound” received four Oscar nominations

Mary J. Blige was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and the film got a nod for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Song (“Mighty River”) and Best Achievement in Cinematography (Rachel Morrison).

The cinematography nomination for Morrison was especially noteworthy as she became the first female nominee ever in that category.

The Los Angeles Times has the complete list of Oscar hopefuls. “The Shape of Water” led all contenders with 13 nods.

The ceremony airs Sunday, March 4, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
