The Seattle City Council has written into law an existing Seattle Police Department policy that allows bystanders to record and comment on officer activity. Civilians were already allowed to record police but now the action is defensible by Seattle law, so long as the civilian recording doesn’t interfere with legitimate police activity. SPD officers are already being outfitted for body-worn cameras to bring more transparency to the city’s law enforcement activity.
