Being a working parent — and particularly a working mom — is hard. But can being a parent also make you a better business leader?
Julia Freeland thinks so. She’s the founder of REvolve YOU, a career consulting company that helps moms balance home life and high-powered jobs, and she’s noticed a pattern during her years in the business: the things that we learn as parents are essential qualities of a good business leader.
Despite that, many women end up leaving the workforce when they have children. So Freeland asked herself: “Is it possible that time spent with your children could be some of the most valuable business development training experience you could invest in to be valuable in the future? What if it were? How would that change the world of business?”
Freeland is putting that question to a panel of moms (and a dad!) who are also leaders of Seattle’s business community this Tuesday Aug. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Riveter in Seattle.
Join Freeland for a glass of wine and thought-provoking discussion with Amy Nelson, CEO of The Riveter; Kristen Hamilton, CEO of Koru; Christy Johnson, CEO of Artemis Connection and UW Adjunct Faculty; Rob Adams, Director, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the UW Foster School of Business; and Holly MacNaughton, a relaunched mom (to Amazon) and ex-military “trailing spouse.”
