Ashley Frangipane, who sings moody electro-pop under the stage name Halsey, plans to donate $100,000 to Planned Parenthood thanks to engagement from her Twitter followers.
Halsey participated in Saturday’s Women’s March on Washington and shared the following statement about her deep, personal connection to Planned Parenthood.
in the next 5 hours each RT = $1 donation by me to @PPact. Please read & share on why PP is important for all women. @CecileRichards pic.twitter.com/PEfwIecZ1N

The tweet blew past its goal, with 141,137 retweets as of Tuesday. Halsey made good on her pledge to donate to the women’s health non-profit in a follow-up tweet.

Republicans have repeatedly threatened to defund Planned Parenthood and President Trump has already signed legislation which withholds U.S. foreign aid from global NGOs that provide abortions and abortion counseling.
That political agenda has prompted a groundswell of support for organizations like Planned Parenthood and the women’s rights movement.
