Amazon has updated its list of words users can use to trigger their Echo devices, and, much to the delight of “Star Trek” fans, “computer” is now one of them.

The default “wake word” for the voice-activated Echo is “Alexa,” and, in the past, users have also had the optional alternatives of “Echo” and “Amazon.” The newest, and arguably most exciting trigger word, “computer” plays into Jeff Bezos’ self-proclaimed obsession with “Star Trek.”

For non-Trekkies, voice-activated systems on the iconic show were triggered by the word “computer.” The update isn’t that surprising, since Bezos has previously said he was inspired to create the Amazon Echo devices by the show’s talking systems.

In fact, the smart speakers already had some Easter egg responses for “Star Trek” fans, as CNET’s Ry Crist has detailed.

To turn your Alexa into the Enterprise’s system, go to “settings” in your Alexa App, select your device and open “Wake Word.”
