Carpool Karaoke
Will Smith rides along with James Corden in the trailer for Apple’s “Carpool Karaoke.” (YouTube screen grab)

“The Late Late Show” host James Corden has created a viral hit with his “Carpool Karaoke” bit, and it looks like when Apple takes over a version of the series Corden and company will be headed down a familiar road.

Apple released the first trailer for the upcoming series, which doesn’t have a release date yet, during the Grammys on Sunday night. In the clip, Corden is behind the wheel some of the time and other times he’s not in the car at all.

Celebrity singers include Will Smith, Billy Eichner, Metallica, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Ariana Grande, Seth MacFarlane, Chelsea Handler, Blake Shelton, Michael Strahan, John Cena, Shaquille O’Neal, and more.

Beat-boxing Shaq gets a laugh out of his passenger Cena, the professional wrestler; Eichner is the “Master of Puppets” in his ride-along with Metallica; and Shelton rubs his head as Handler attempts to sing behind the wheel.

9 to 5 Mac reports that Apple will release 16 episodes of the series, all 30 minutes in length, and they’ll be available to Apple Music subscribers. Corden will continue to do his original version of the sketch, although less frequently, on his late-night CBS show.
