Alexa is officially a star.
With a turn on the red carpet for a real live Hollywood movie premiere, Amazon’s voice-activated assistant reached peak AI status on Monday night.
An Echo device was used to power the party for “A Bad Moms Christmas,” the STXfilms follow-up to “Bad Moms,” starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn and others.
Even Santa Claus was intrigued, as he quizzed Alexa in front of a throng of media, asking her if she knew who he was “I’m talking to the one and only Santa Claus — and when the movie opens in theaters — “The movie ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’ will be released on Nov. 1, 2017.”
“We’re excited to be working with STX to create the first ever Alexa powered movie premiere,” said Amazon VP Daniel Rausch in a news release. “Our customers tell us how much they love using Alexa at home for things like controlling lights and entertainment, staying connected to family, and finding the perfect holiday cookie recipe, and we wanted to bring that same experience to the red carpet in a fun, unexpected way. With a little help from STX, Alexa might even make it snow for this premiere!”
Indeed she did. Flakes started falling from the sky as Seattle saxophonist Kenny G joined the party to play his version of “Deck the Halls.”
