Amazon employees walking past and/or working above and beside The Spheres being built in downtown Seattle had a chance to capture images of the unique domes for a recent photo contest the tech giant was running online.
The contest, with the hashtag #amazonemployeecontest on Instagram and Twitter, drew 777 total entries as would-be photographers looked for creative ways to frame the glass-enclosed orbs between Sixth and Seventh Avenues on the company’s campus.
Five winners were selected from that bunch:
Manuel Bahamondez
A long exposure at night adds streaks of color through the frame filled by the glowing Spheres.
Sheridan Martin
We previously wrote about the design technologist’s clever dress design mimicking the subject behind her in this photograph.
Rob Uy
Uy played off the reflection of one of the nearby towers, capturing another Seattle mainstay: a crane.
Mary Holmes
The project really started coming into shape when the giant glass panels were inserted.
Rahim Lalji
The setting sun plays off the Doppler and Day 1 towers in this view of The Spheres looking west.
On Tuesday, the five winners spent two hours in The Spheres, checking out the views as well as the plants that are currently being added to the ongoing site. The employees will also have an additional opportunity over the next few months to return and capture another significant or fun plant arrival.
The Spheres, which will house hundreds of exotic plant species from all over the world, are not scheduled to open to employees until early 2018.
