Breakfast at the Seattle Aquarium is one of the activities now available on Airbnb ‘Trips.’

Travelers visiting Seattle can now book a catered breakfast beneath the Seattle Aquarium’s underwater dome through Airbnb.

The “Seas the Day!” event is part of Airbnb Trips, a feature that allows local experts to sell activities to guests.

Airbnb Trips officially launches in Seattle today, with activities like sailing with a local live-aboard and sushi-making with a Japanese chef.

Jim Wharton, Director of Conservation and Education at the Seattle Aquarium, will lead a discussion on ocean conservation for guests who sign up for “Seas the Day.” It’s part of Airbnb’s Social Impact Experiences. For those events, Airbnb waives all fees. All other Experiences come with a 20 percent service fee, which is the primary way Airbnb makes money on Trips. The rest of the payment goes to hosts.

“We’re excited to connect with the Airbnb audience,” Wharton said. “We think they, and travelers in general, are connected to places and are interested in their preservation. We believe this extends to natural places. These visitors are curious, motivated, and likely open to ideas about how they can live a more ocean-friendly life, even to learning about how they can act in their community for positive change.”

Airbnb announced Trips in fall of 2016, signaling ambitions that go well beyond home-sharing. The Seattle launch is significant because Airbnb is stepping on Expedia’s home turf. With the advent of Trips, the two travel giants could be in closer competition.
