Avvo, the Seattle-based online marketplace for connecting lawyers to consumers, announced that Expedia executive Jason Moss will join the company as Chief Marketing Officer in December.

Moss joins Avvo after a six-year stint at the Bellevue, Wash., based online travel giant, during which he worked in business development and strategy online marketing, and later led strategy for global paid search. He has served  as the vice president and general manager of Expedia-owned CarRentals.com for the past three years.

“Jason brings a great combination of corporate and start-up experience that will serve Avvo well,” said Avvo CEO Mark Britton, who previously worked at Expedia as general counsel prior to founding Avvo. “His expertise will help drive our marketing efforts and our overall business to the next level. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to the team.”

Founded in Seattle in 2006, Avvo has been growing steadily over the past few years.

“Avvo has transformed the legal industry in a way that benefits both consumers and lawyers by making the legal market easier to access and more transparent,” Moss said in a statement. “Everyone at Avvo is passionate about the company’s mission and I look forward to joining the team.”

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center announced the appointment of Lynne Kornblatt as the organization’s new vice president and chief human resources officer, starting Jan. 3.

Kornblatt will lead human resources for Fred Hutch and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), its clinical partner, supporting over 4,300 positions between the two organizations.

She has worked as a nurse and a lawyer, and comes to Fred Hutch from Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, where she served as the chief human resources officer.

“At SCCA, we are known for providing the best care for patients,” Norm Hubbard, executive vice president of SCCA, said in a release.

“That means hiring excellent people to help us do that. Lynne’s unique education and background, informed by her own bedside experiences of being a nurse and having a loved one with cancer, gives her special insight into what key traits, abilities and skills are needed. She will play a vital role in finding outstanding candidates to hire and supporting our employees as we focus on caring for patients and working toward cancer cures.”

“Miracles happen and will continue to happen at Fred Hutch and SCCA, not only in laboratories and clinical settings,” Kornblatt said, “but also in the ways we care for, engage and develop the organization’s most miraculous asset: our people.”

Swurveys, a mobile survey startup based out of Seattle’s Startup Hall on the University of Washington campus, announced the addition of five-year Amazon software development vet Preston Tamkin as its chief technical officer.

Swurveys develops mobile surveys that are designed with touchscreens in mind, making it easier to collect data from mobile users.

“Swurveys is a fast growing product with a lot of potential to upset a stagnant market,” Tamkin told GeekWire in an email. “It is a crowded product category, but most competitors only offer marginal advantages to the established players. Swurveys seeks to disrupt the survey industry in many dimensions, including creation, distribution, the survey itself, analytics, and even pricing model and our cloud-first, scale-first mentality will help us accomplish this.”

Tamkin specializes in cloud architecture, and during his time at Amazon he helped build Amazon Mobile Analytics and Amazon Lumberyard.
