The line between “can we really do that?” and pure science fiction seems to blur more every day, especially when it comes to space exploration. A cutting-edge, digitally animated film called “Space Next” will further excite those intrigued by futuristic possibilities.

The 3D film is showing Saturday at Seattle’s Museum of Flight as part of the NewSpace 2016 conference. The Museum’s website says that it “traces our fascination with flying and our timeless desire to reach the stars” and the result “is an immersive experience of interplanetary excellence sure to inspire a generation of explorers, scientists, and dreamers.”

“Space Next” was produced in realistic, digital animation to screen on IMAX and advanced, ultra-high resolution cinema systems. The film was formatted to accommodate multiple digital platforms in 2D, 3D, flat-screen and Fulldome, and resolutions up to 8K, according to a news release.

It certainly looks cool on just a desktop monitor and the classic moon-landing audio at the beginning of this trailer still sends chills.

“‘Space Next’ fits the Museum’s commitment to be the foremost educational air and space museum in the world,” said Museum of Flight CEO Doug King. “It is a perfect fit for attendees and fans of the NewSpace conference, and for young people inspired by the subject matter.”

Saturday showtimes are 9:10, 10:05, 11:00, 12:20, 2:10, and 4:05. Director Luke Ployhar of Afterglow Studios will take part in special presentations at the 12:20 and 2:10 showings. For ticket information, visit the Museum of Flight website.
