Greenlight, a Seattle startup that unveiled its $49 smartphone dash-cam kit in May, this morning announced a new insurance underwriting partnership that the company hopes will lead to broad adoption of its technology in the commercial transportation and logistics industries.
Under the partnership with Napa, Calif.-based Paul Hanson Partners, commercial fleets that incorporate Greenlight’s dash-cam technology will be eligible for discounts on insurance rates.
“You’ll see us being able to compete with dedicated telematics and dash-cam solutions that have discounts, which cost $800 to $1,000 to deploy,” said Greenlight CEO Jason Green, who was previously the co-founder of the Contour action cam-company. “We do imagine we’re going to see some large adoption based on our competitive advantage and price.”
Greenlight is available for pre-order to consumers now, shipping in the fall.
The startup is up to about 12 people total. So far, the company has raised $700,000 in funding. Manufacturing giant Flextronics is an early strategic investor for Greenlight, through its Lab IX accelerator.
