The Revenant

Film fans who made it through the grizzly bear attack scene in “The Revenant” probably weren’t wishing that Academy Award winning director Alejandro Inarritu and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki had a more immersive filmmaking tool at their disposal.

But the duo behind that beautiful and gripping Leonardo DiCaprio movie, as well as 2015’s Best Picture, “Birdman,” are teaming up again to make a short film about immigrants crossing the border from Mexico into the United States. And they’ll be using virtual reality for the first time.

The experimental film will be produced and financed by Legendary Entertainment and Fondazione Prada, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The immersive world and characters will be built by Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB.
