Product Hunt COO Corley Hughes

This week on the GeekWire radio show and podcast: We’re joined by Corley Hughes, a former Microsoft general manager who is now the chief operating officer of Product Hunt, the S.F.-based startup that helps people find products they love.

Product Hunt, which Wired has dubbed tech’s new “tastemaker,” was originally founded as a newsletter by product manager Ryan Hoover, before expanding to the web. The site recently launched a new marketplace for direct sales of products through the site, the first step in a broader revenue strategy as part of its long-term business model.

On this week’s show, Hughes talks about the origins of Product Hunt, how the site works, where the company is headed from here, and why members of the Product Hunt team don’t send email to each other. She also discusses her own shift from Microsoft, where she was most recently a Windows general manager, to Product Hunt, where she was employee number four at a company that now has 20 people.

The interview with Hughes begins in the second segment of the show, at 9:00 in the audio player below.

In our news segment, we talk about Microsoft opening up its Windows Holographic platform to other AR/VR device makers, Amazon cracking down on fake reviews in a new way, and the Sacramento Kings trying out a bot to interact with fans. Later in the show, we give the answer to last week’s GeekWire Trivia Challenge.
