Next week is going to be a wild one. On top of some wonderful regularly scheduled events, Seattle Startup Week kicks off on Monday, Nov. 14, with a dizzying array of talks, meetups, and celebrations all focused on connecting and inspiring Seattle’s startup network.
Many of the events are free, and include panels like bootstrapping without being strapped, how culture is defined in startups, and fireside chats with the likes of theSkimm founders Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg — and that’s only Monday! Check out the schedule for a full list of events.
Startup Week events run Monday to Friday next week, at various locations throughout the city. It’s a great chance to get out to some local hubs, learn about and network with Seattle’s entrepreneurs, and maybe even run into a GeekWire reporter or two — we’ll be covering events throughout the week.
That’s one of the selections from the GeekWire Calendar, our curated list of the Pacific Northwest’s top tech events. Keep reading for moe events happening next week and visit the full calendar for more.
Lady Problems Hackathon
What: Lady Problems is an international organization that hosts hackathons to tackle issues that prevent female entrepreneurship. Only a small percentage of companies are founded by women, and that number is even less in the tech sector. This weekend, Vancouver, B.C., is taking on that challenge by inviting developers, designers, and entrepreneurs of all genders to collaborate on finding solutions.
When: Nov. 12 – 13
Where: Lighthouse Labs, Vancouver, B.C, Canada
Register: Sign up for the event here.
extraSlice Grand Opening and Tech Expo
What: ExtraSlice, the Bellevue, Wash., based coworking space and tech hub, is celebrating their new location this weekend with a tech expo, plenty of cake, and a good old competition. The event will be preceded by a pitch clinic from the Seattle Alliance of Angels from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., followed by a tech expo highlighting tech from the Seattle area. The evening concludes with a fast pitch competition, featuring four Seattle and Bellevue startups.

Seattle Sports Tech Meetup

Ignite Seattle’s 10th anniversary
What: Ignite is now a world-renowned speaking series, famous for its distinct formula: speakers are limited to only five minutes on stage, meaning they often have to get creative to get their point across. But Ignite began here in Seattle 10 years ago, almost by accident — as co-founder Brady Forrest told GeekWire, the original founders scrambled to put together their first event, and made a last-minute decision to open the floor to talks. Evidently the format stuck. Ignite celebrates its 10th anniversary this week with a special Ignite event and celebration.
When: Nov.17, 7 p.m – 9 p.m.
Where: Town Hall Seattle.
Register: Tickets are available here, but make sure to get them early! The events usually sell out.
Portland Health Ignite 2016
What: Another Ignite event! This time, for our neighbors to the south: the Technology Association of Oregon is hosting Health Ignite, an Ignite event focused on health innovations in the beaver state. The event will cover topics including wellness, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and healthcare reform.
When: Nov.16, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Where: Empirical Theater at OMSI, Portland, Ore.
Register: Tickets available here.
