Ground Kontrol is expanding.
Portland Monthly reported late Wednesday that the popular Old Town bar/arcade in PDX is doubling in size with plans for a 4,000 square-foot expansion.
It will take over an old cafe just behind the existing Ground Kontrol, as the two buildings will connect via a new hallway. Portland Monthly noted that the new space will feature a bar with “a dozen high tech, super-cooled taps and built-in video displays.” There will be of course, more video games, including the Star Wars Battle Pod, a two-player fight simulator.
The expansion will be completed this summer. Portland seems to be a hub for arcade-bar hybrids, as another large venue, Quarterworld, is set to open next month.
