Amazon will offer speedy delivery of items from Bartell Drugs in the Seattle area in a new expansion of its Prime Now program.
Bartell Drugs delivery, launching Tuesday, creates a new connection between the 126-year-old Seattle-based drugstore chain and the Seattle-based online retail giant. Bartell Drugs will be the first drugstore chain to offer delivery through Prime Now, which offers free two-hour delivery and $7.99 one-hour delivery to Amazon Prime members.
Amazon says the Prime Now app will offer access to 90 percent of Bartell’s inventory.
The company says Bartell Drugs delivery will be available initially in many Seattle neighborhoods, including the area from Sammamish to Renton on the Eastside, and in Seattle from Columbia City to the University of Washington. Prime Now customers can enter their zip code in the Prime Now site or app to see if they are eligible for Bartell Drugs delivery. Amazon says more areas will be added soon in the Seattle area.
Delivery will run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends for Bartell Drugs items.
Amazon’s partnerships with traditional retailers are the latest example of the company blurring the line between online retail and bricks-and-mortar shopping. Amazon also works with grocery stores, restaurants and other retailers for Prime Now delivery, in addition to delivering items from its own warehouses.
Prime Now is now available in more than two dozen U.S. cities.
