Here it is, that absurd card game you never knew you wanted — Exploding Kittens.

The brainchild of former Xbox chief design officer Elan Lee, The Oatmeal‘s Matthew Inman and Xbox/Marvel game designer Shane Small, the trio are currently crowd-funding for the new game that is “for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats,” via Kickstarter.

The premise of the game is fairly simple. It operates much like Russian roulette, players draw cards until someone draws the exploding kitten and loses the game. There are other “action” cards to hype up the intensity and avoid the “exploding kitten” card, including cards that can defuse the deadly cats and skipping your turn, taking a peek and seek the wisdom of an “all-seeing goat wizard.” It’s all fantastically ridiculous, yes.

“We think this game combines all the things we’re best at creating, and and put together this Kickstarter campaign because we can’t build this without you,” say the creators.

They were asking for $10,000 to fund the project, and as of this writing, have already cleared $25,000. And they have 30 more days to go.

If you back it, of course, you get the game for $20. For $35, you get the NSFW version. And there are several more collector’s versions above that.

Exploding kittens, the next Cards Against Humanity? We’ll be watching and playing for sure.
