Jeff Sandquist, who joined Twitter a year-and-a-half ago to head up the social network’s developer relations initiatives, is returning to the Seattle region and leaving the company.

Sandquist, who was a longtime developer evangelist at Microsoft before joining Twitter, said in a message that he had “a wonderful time” at Twitter, describing it as a family decision to return to an area where they have roots. The Twitter developer relations team needs a local leader in San Francisco, he said.

His tenure at Twitter included the build-out of the developer relations team and the launch of new products including the Fabric mobile developer tools.

Sandquist declined to say what he’ll be doing next but noted that he intends to be “quite active” in the Seattle-area tech community.

Re/code first reported the news today, and Sandquist confirmed his impending departure in a tweet.
