collab_ios_3up v2People searching for homes on Trulia have a new way to share their favorite properties by using Pinterest-esque boards to pull together sets of listings on the home search site.

The new feature, which was launched today, allows people to click a button on a listing that they like and add it to a list of other listings that they can then share via email with collaborators like the people shopping for homes with them, or their real estate agent. The boards give people a quick glimpse at a property, with a photo, price, and key information about a listing like its location and square footage.

collab_desktop[1]Adding a collaboration tool like this to Trulia is an important move, since a survey conducted last year by the National Association of Realtors showed that 73 percent of homebuyers search for their home as a couple. That means they have to manage potentially competing tastes in order to agree on a place, and communicate all of that to a real estate agent.

Users will also get alerts from Trulia about updates to the properties that they added to a board to keep them up to date on new showings, price changes and other events. Trulia’s product team also plans to add real time chat functionality to boards in the future, which will allow people to discuss the homes they picked while staying on the site.

To encourage users to try out the board functionality, Trulia is giving away $25,000 – $15,000 in cash and $10,000 in the form of a One Kings Lane gift certificate – to a lucky user chosen from all the people who create a board between now and April 30.

Even though Trulia was just acquired by Zillow, the new tool isn’t going to be making the jump across properties just yet. That’s not to say that it won’t in the future, but for right now, it’s Trulia-only. That’s hardly surprising, given a recent remark from Curt Beardsley, Zillow’s vice president of industry development, who said that the two sites will remain competitors even though they’re owned by the same company.
