What if you had a sleek, stylish backpack that synced to an app and signaled while cycling?

That is precisely the idea behind BrakePack, the new backpack made specifically for cyclists. Emerging from Artefact’s innovation program Startefact, the backpack appears simple to use. You just download the app, which syncs to the lighting signals on the back of the backpack, and go.

The pack uses LED lights to signal. It charges on a wall-mounted wireless charger, and the lights and battery are removable so you can easily clean the backpack.

Why is this so great? Despite all the yellow vests, lights on your bike and more, your backpack takes up some seriously visible space to people following you. In fact, it would be almost impossible not to notice a cyclist with a lit-up backpack in front of you. And it allows cyclists to keep both hands free to steer.

The best part? The backpack looks really sweet.

Right now, Artefact tells us that it’s just a working prototype. They’ve not tested it commercially yet and it’s not available for sale. A project from its incubation program, they are seeking a partner to help them bring it to market.
