While the Grammys are often a ridiculous pop circus — aka the Beck-Kanye-Beyonce debacle of last night — the awards actually do recognize music in all categories, and last night the Seattle Symphony won it’s first-ever Grammy.

The Grammy went to composer John Luther Adams for Become Ocean, which one Best Contemporary Classical Composition. The recording was commissioned and recorded by the Seattle Symphony. Released via the Cantaloupe label, it was also recorded by Seattle Symphony’s recording engineer Dmitriy Lipay, and was also nominated for best engineered album.

You can buy it via the Symphony Store at Benaroya Hall, or online at iTunes. Congrats!
