It’s a hard-knock life working in this tech grind. The diversity is low, the hours long. What’s a geek looking for some kink to do?

If you live in Portland, Ore., you’re in luck. The city ranked No. 1 in Kink University’s poll of the kinkiest cities in America. The org looked at 50 cities, taking several factors into account, including the total kink population as measured by active members on Fetlife, the percentage of population that identifies as kinky, the number of “kink-aware” professionals (therapists, doctors, etc.) on NCSF’s directory and by porn purchases using data from Kink.com.

According to Kink University: “With nearly 4% of it’s population logged on to kinky social networking site Fetlife, Portland has the highest percentage of kinksters per capita in the US — and is nearly as rich in resources for the BDSM, fetish and poly communities as much larger cities like San Francisco, New York and Chicago…The numbers speak for themselves. In a recent survey by the Portland Mercury, nearly 42% of Portland identified as something other than monogamous and 33% as something other than heterosexual.”

San Francisco held strong at No. 2. And don’t fret, Seattle. You came in a solid No. 7 for being “VERY fond of its BDSM and fetish porn.”

“San Francisco is usually seen as the center of kink life in the United States, but rising housing costs resulting from the tech boom seem to have pushed the community northward,” Mike Stabile, a spokesman for Kink University, said in a statement to the Huffington Post.

So there you have it. Tech boom = more kink.
