This is a new concept for a wine club — a pair of MIT grads launched a subscription service that seems to be the equivalent of a digital sommelier.

Via the blog Brandcheerleader, Boston-based Bright Cellars takes the monthly wine club idea and gives it whole new twist. The online service pairs you with wines based off a quiz that matches your taste preferences to wines with an algorithm.

According to the Bright Cellars site, “the Bright Points algorithm scores each wine by comparing 18 attributes to your preferences, matching you with your monthly experience.”

Wine enthusiasts first take a quiz, which asks questions like what is your favorite chocolate and juice, as well as what experiences (fine dining, the beach) you prefer to pair wine with. After a few questions, the site matches you to four selections based on your answers.

I have to say, the site was pretty spot on with my test: They gave me a Pinot Noir, as well as several fresh, citrusy Sauvignon Blancs since I’m in summer mode. If they’d snuck a Chardonnay in there, I would’ve known it was garbage.

Once you receive your wines, you rate them online, which helps them build your taste profile out and come up with even better fits for your palate.

According to the site, the creators want to help introduce you to some hidden gems out there, so you are encouraged to get a little adventurous in your answers. They say they are pretty picky, only selecting one out of every 12 wines they sample for the club.

Subscriptions are $60 per month to try four new wines from around the world, and first-time customers get 50 percent off their first order.

And if they pick a bottle you don’t love? You get a free replacement bottle in your next shipment.

Four new wines for $60 a month delivered to your door? Sounds like a easy win for wine lovers.
