According to Amazon, Seattleites are becoming less and less romantic.
The online retail giant unveiled its annual list of “Most Romantic Cities” in the U.S. today, which is compiled by analyzing purchasing data on a per capita basis of products like romance novels, relationship books, romantic comedy movies, romantic music, and sexual wellness products.
Seattle ranked No. 2 on Amazon’s list last year. However, this year the Emerald City is nowhere to be found. Spokane, Wash., also fell out of the list after ranking ninth in 2014.
Two other Washington cities made the top-20 for the second straight year: Vancouver and Everett.
Here’s the top 20:
- Knoxville, Tenn.
- Miami, Fla.
- Orlando, Fla.
- Alexandria, Va.
- Vancouver, Wash.
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- Dayton, Ohio
- Columbia, S.C.
- Round Rock, Texas
- Murfreesboro, Tenn.
- Las Vegas, Nev
- Pittsburgh, Pa.
- Everett, Wash.
- Broken Arrow, Okla.
- Springfield, Mo.
- Salem, Ore.
- Billings, Mont.
- Wilmington, N.C.
- Gainesville, Fla.
- Erie, Pa.
So what the heck, Seattle? Where’s the love?
Maybe everyone is investing more time in the Seahawks. Maybe it’s the influx of techie transplants bringing non-romantic vibes to the city.
Or, perhaps, it’s actually Amazon’s fault. Jeff Reifman, a veteran of the Seattle-area tech community, argued last year in this guest post that Amazon’s rapid growth is hurting Seattle’s dating scene — an idea that certainly sparked a lot of discussion on GeekWire.
