Was it really too good to be true?

That’s the message Kickstarter is sending out. The crowdfunding platform suspended that Skarp Laser Razor yesterday for failing to provide a working prototype.

The razor, which we reported on when it launched in late September, promised to use a laser to remove hair. Users would simply swipe the laser razor over the area they wished to shave — the makers promised it worked for both men and women — and the hair would just fall out with no cuts or irritation.

Apparently, it was a message more than 20,000 Kickstarter backers were willing to part with cash to hear — the project raised more than $4 million before Kickstarter shut it down.

As the Register in the UK reports, its readers shared a Kickstarter email that told them that  “we’ve concluded that it is in violation of our rule requiring working prototypes of physical products that are offered as rewards.”

“In other words, the Skarp crew doesn’t have a working prototype,” the UK Register concluded, adding that “Kickstarter’s email says ‘Suspensions cannot be undone.’ ”

The Skarp Technologies crew have already moved their campaign over to Indiegogo, as the Verge reported, where they already have nearly 750 backers giving them $106,000 as of this time.

Skarp’s makers did provide a demo video to Kickstarter, which is also on YouTube, but it did not pass go (if you watch it, you’ll see why). You can see that video below:
