Microsoft delivered on its promise to make more than 100 Xbox 360 games playable on the Xbox One this holiday season, releasing a list of 104 backward compatible titles on Monday.
The company says this first wave — which includes popular franchises like Gears of War, Assassins Creed and Fallout — will be ready to go when the company begins rolling out a major update to Xbox One consoles on Nov. 12. More games will be added on a regular basis beginning in December, according to a company blog post.
Backward compatibility is a highly anticipated feature gaming fans have been asking for ever since the Xbox One first debuted in 2013. They didn’t get it back then, but they will now as part of the “New Xbox One Experience” set to launch later this week. It’s all part of Microsoft’s plan to pump life back into the 2-year-old console, including bringing it onto the Windows 10 operating system and introducing new features.
Backward compatibility, the company has said, is one of the top requests they’ve been hearing for years.
When it launches on Nov. 12, digital Xbox 360 titles will automatically show up in users Xbox One game libraries. Gamers will also be able to insert an existing Xbox 360 retail disc to download a copy of the game for Xbox One.
Check below for the complete list of backward compatible games. There are some notable absences, but Microsoft says games including “Halo Reach,” “Halo Wars,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops 1,” “Bioshock,” “Bioshock 2,” “Bioshock Infinite,” and “Skate 3” are coming soon.
“Stay tuned because this is just the beginning of a long list of Xbox 360 games that will run on Xbox One,” Xbox director of program management Mike Ybarra wrote in a Monday blog post.
