Google Expeditions, its virtual reality system for classrooms, will now be available to schools for free.

As the New York Times reports, Google is offering the field-trip simulation system, called Expeditions, to schools as part of the company’s efforts to “further develop the technology.”

The kits contain Google’s cardboard viewers with Asus smartphones. The students put them on, while the teacher uses an app to guide them through any one of Google’s available 360-degree Street Views.

Of course, as the Times points out, Google isn’t alone in its quest to engage the classroom. Microsoft has also gone into schools with its tools, including Skype, Windows 10 Education and Minecraft.

Expeditions is free for now, but Google may start charging, so educators, snag those free kits while you can.
