If you haven’t already, you should take time to see the latest cartoon from the Oatmeal.
It tells the story of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, but overall, it’s meant to be a post about the incredible short and unpredictable lives we all live — and how everyone can help someone else out along the way.
Since posting it, the cartoon has gone viral.
Matthew Inman posted this to Facebook about its success. It’s been shared more than 33,000 times as of now via that social site:
Thanks to everyone for the amazing, heartfelt responses to my latest comic. Other than going for runs in the woods…

If this tearjerker has you worried that the Oatmeal’s lost its snark, don’t worry. Inman promises he’ll be back to “bears and butts” soon enough.
