Paul Carduner, the Facebook Seattle site lead, has left the company, just as Facebook gears up for a major expansion in the city.

A Facebook representative confirmed the news this afternoon. No replacement has been named. Facebook surpassed 500 employees in Seattle as of February and is scheduled to move into a big new office space at 1101 Dexter Ave. early next year, giving itself room for 2,000 people.

Carduner became the Facebook Seattle site lead last year, moving up from the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif. He joined Facebook in 2010 when the company acquired the photo startup Divvyshot.com, where he was an early employee.

More than 50 out-of-town tech companies have opened engineering offices in Seattle in recent years, and Facebook’s engineering center has become one of the largest.

Carduner’s exit was reported earlier today by the Puget Sound Business Journal.
