If you’re Tindered out, here’s a new app that focuses on making a mental connection first.

Willow launched today and is positioning itself as the thinking person’s dating app. Unlike other versions that are photo-based, Willow lets its users start a conversation first before revealing photos.

The app’s makers wanted to stress personality and shared interests over looks. Founder Michael Bruch told TechCrunch that it’s hard to start a conversation wtih most dating apps, but with Willow, “users are actually connecting by starting a conversation, getting that out of the way right from the get-go.”

Features include creating a profile and short bio, and listing your interests, personal traits, school and education. You can then write up to three custom questions for potential matches to answer. Users can answer them or skip them, and use tags to search for areas of interest, like #hometown or #movie. It also narrows matches by geographical distance. It’s up to the user to choose when they want to share photos.
