In this report from Orlando’s WKMG’s Local 6 news, they look at how candidates are using new ways to apply for jobs — perhaps something as simple as a Snapchat — to help land interviews.

WKMG notes that job seekers who take creative, thoughtful approaches (we stress the thoughtful part here) to applying, especially in fields like advertising and marketing, are getting ahead by putting their social media and video savvy to work.

“Experts say learning about a potential hire’s personality earlier in the process is key for more and more companies,” according to the story.

In this segment, one guy gets an interview for an internship through a Snapchat — because he noticed the company was running a Snapchat campaign.

CEO Mark Newman of HireVue, a platform that helps candidates record video interviews, told WKMG that “adoption increases” are up 10 times year over year.

It’s definitely something to consider outside the typical CV and cover letter approach. However, it also begs the question: Is sending a video or picture of yourself opening you up to the possibility of discrimination? This is one trend that will be fascinating to watch.
